First Chapter of New Book: War and Taxes
I've posted the first chapter of my new book, War and Taxes (coauthored with Steve Bank and Kirk Stark, both of UCLA Law School, on the Tax History Project's website. The book won't be formally published until Tuesday, May 6. But the Urban Institute is hosting a First Tuesday forum that day on "Dollars for Defense: War, Taxes, and Sacrifice." Panelists will include: Alan Gropman, distinguished professor of national security policy at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; Lawrence Korb, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and former assistant secretary of defense; Lori Montgomery, staff writer on economic policy for the Washington Post; Allen Schick, professor at the School of Public Policy, University of Maryland; and Joseph J. Thorndike, director of the Tax History Project at Tax Analysts, scholar in residence at the University of Virginia, and coauthor of War and Taxes. To attend the First Tuesday event, register at http://www.urban.org/pressroom/firsttuesdays/rsvp.cfm, e-mail paffairs@ui.urban.org, or call (202) 261-5709.
